Sound Effect for Boefers Gun.
We love a good collab here at 1eight! Especially when it’s with the DWD guys.
Dead Walk Designs were approached by the D-Day Museum on Portland, Dorset and were asked to help add sound effects to their existing replica, Boefers trailer mounted gun…which, according to the curator of the museum, was actually used as a prop in the Band Of Brothers series!
The gun already had a movement action, but at the time only the sound of the motor could be heard. 1eight were asked to provide a gun blast sound effect which needed to be triggered each time the barrel fires. We managed to locate the actual sound this gun made and after a spot of editing, got it to fit perfectly the movement of the barrel.
We used magnetic trigger sensors on the shaft of the barrel, which were hooked up to an mp3 controller and monitor speaker. But the exposed sensors and wiring looked quite unsightly hanging over the top of the gun so DWD designed a sensor housing sleeve using 3D design software and asked Creative 3D printing to create the bespoke part. Once all was installed Steve at the museum painted it all in to match the gun colour, finishing off a pretty nifty piece of kit!
